2000

Chevrolet's compact pickup gets minor changes for 2000, but bigger news is due on the 2001 models. Four-door crew-cab models will go on sale in the fall to compete with similar versions of the Dodge Dakota, Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma — also due as 2001 models.
$4,100 – $5,325

Dodge Dakota (2000)

Dodge got the jump on most of its rivals with the January introduction of the 2000 Dakota Quad Cab, a compact pickup with four conventional doors and seats for up to six people.
$4,025 – $6,425

Ford Ranger (2000)

A Trailhead option package that dresses two-wheel-drive Rangers to look like 4x4s is the main addition for 2000 to the best-selling compact pickup.
$3,500 – $5,800

GMC Sonoma (2000)

Sonoma is GMC's version of the compact pickup that Chevrolet markets as the S-10 and Isuzu peddles as the Hombre. They differ only in styling, and all three receive minor updates for 2000.
$4,100 – $5,325

Isuzu Hombre (2000)

Isuzu builds only trucks, but it relies on partner General Motors for its compact pickup — a clone of the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC Sonoma. The Hombre is built at a Shreveport, La., plant where its corporate cousins are built.

Toyota Tacoma (2000)

New StepSide models with flared rear fenders are available this spring in both regular-cab and extended-cab versions as late additions to the 2000 Tacoma lineup.
