Built on a new car-based platform shared with the Dodge Caliber, the Compass is one of two front-wheel-drive models from Jeep — the other being the compact Patriot. Both cars are examples of why so-called crossover vehicles are supplanting traditional truck-based SUVs. Trim levels include the Sport and better-equipped Limited.

The Grand Cherokee is one of Chrysler's bread-and-butter offerings. It's a five-seat midsize SUV. Trim levels include Laredo, Limited, Overland and high-performance SRT8 models. The Grand Cherokee's competition includes the likes of the Ford Explorer and Toyota 4Runner.

The Jeep Liberty, which is related to the Dodge Nitro, comes in Sport and Limited editions. One of the more interesting features in the five-seat Jeep Liberty small SUV is its optional Sky Slider movable canvas roof. Liberty competitors include the Nissan Xterra and Suzuki Grand Vitara.
