New Lexus Models

The HS 250h, a small five-seat sedan, is Lexus' first dedicated hybrid, meaning a model that's not available in gas-only form. It's also Lexus' most affordable hybrid to date. There are no comparable models from luxury brands, so the HS will compete with any other small, efficient luxury car, like the Acura TSX and the clean-diesel BMW 335d. 

The IS sedan is Lexus' latest attempt to field a sporty four-door that rivals BMW's well-regarded 3 Series. The IS 250 is the only IS to offer optional all-wheel drive; rear-wheel drive is standard. The GX 470 is positioned between the car-based RX 350 and the redesigned LX 570. The GX 470 has room for up to eight passengers when equipped with an optional third row. The GX loosely competes with anything between a Volvo XC90 and a Lincoln Navigator.

Lexus' flagship LS 460 full-size sedan is available in standard form and as a limousine-like long-wheelbase LS 460 L model that stretches nearly 203 inches from bumper to bumper — 5 inches more than the standard model. Competitors include the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. An optional Advanced Parking Guidance System lets the car park itself and is the car's most intriguing feature. 

The Lexus LS 600h L was the first car to combine a V-8 gasoline engine with an electric motor for improved gas mileage and robust acceleration. The 600h L is a hybrid version of the LS 460L, and it pretty much sits alone as far as ultra-expensive hybrids, starting in the $105,000 range.  

The 2009 Lexus LX 570 was introduced in 2008 as a replacement for the LX 470. Lexus markets the truck as the ultimate combination of comfort and utility, but it's possible that's just a ploy to justify having a luxury SUV that's still truck-based. Competitors include other $75,000 SUVs like the Land Rover Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz GL550. 

The Lexus LX 570 is a full-size truck-based SUV that has seats for up to eight people in three rows. Standard luxury features include a navigation system and four-zone air conditioning. Competitors include other luxury SUVs like the Land Rover Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz GL550. 

The RX is getting long in the tooth, but it's still one of Lexus' most popular models. The pricier RX 400h derivative uses a hybrid drivetrain; it's covered separately in the Cars.com Research section. Competitors to the five-seat RX include the Lincoln MKX and Acura MDX. 

Like other grand-touring roadsters, the Lexus SC 430 hardtop convertible comes stocked with a V-8 engine and plenty of top-shelf accoutrements. A limited Pebble Beach edition has exclusive colors and wheels; its competitors include the Jaguar XK, Mercedes-Benz SL and Cadillac XLR.
