It's been seven years since the last Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson special edition. That changes with the debut of a new version at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show.
What Is the 2019 Ford F-150?
The full-size Ford F-150 pickup truck seats up to six and is offered with a choice of three cab styles and three bed lengths. Six engines are offered: a standard 290-horsepower, 3.3-liter V-6; a 325-hp, turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6; a 375-hp, turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6; a 395-hp, 5.0-liter V-8; a 450-hp, turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 and a 250-hp, turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V-6. The base V-6 drives a six-speed automatic transmission, but the other engines work with a 10-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard with four-wheel drive optional. Competitors include the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan and Ram 1500.
What’s New on the 2019 Ford F-150?
The high-end Limited trim level is now powered by the high-output turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 that was previously reserved for the Raptor. Automatic high-beam headlights and automatic emergency braking are now standard.
What Features in the 2019 Ford F-150 Are Most Important?
Regular- and extended-cab (SuperCab) trucks can have a 5.5-, 6.5- or 8-foot cargo bed, while the crew-cab (SuperCrew) version uses a 5.5- or 6.5-foot bed. Standard features in the base XL trim include manual windows and locks, manual air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo. XLT trims get power windows and locks, Ford's Sync 3 multimedia system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity and 4G LTE connectivity with a Wi-Fi hot spot.
Other available features include an integrated trailer brake controller, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, a 360-degree camera system, a panoramic moonroof, remote start, navigation, power-adjustable pedals, leather-trimmed seats, heated and ventilated front seats and a Bang & Olufsen premium stereo.
Desert-running off-road capability is what the Raptor brings to the table with a long-travel suspension featuring Fox Racing shocks, skid plates, all-terrain tires and unique styling.
Should I Buy the 2019 Ford F-150?
The light-duty full-size truck segment seems to get more competitive each year with rivals like the redesigned Ram 1500 offering upscale interiors and technology in a bid to chip away at Ford's dominant position in the class.
With strong towing and payload capacities, the F-150 offers a refined ride and is surprisingly agile considering its size. We also like the towing performance of the EcoBoost turbo engines. However, Ford needs to up its game in the increasingly popular luxury truck category where it trails high-end versions of the Ram 1500.
